Wine:  Looking for something different? Safrá is unique given it's a blend of 3 Spanish Mediterranean grapes and aged in 17th century amphorae (or “tinajas” as they are called in Spain) .  The advantage to ageing wine in ancient amphorae is the old clay will not taint the flavour of the wine.  Instead, the wine maintains its pure grape taste yet is well structured given the ageing techniques. Safrá is light to medium-bodied and is perfect for drinking on a warm day, on its own, or even with seafood or BBQ. Safrá is very tasty with deep purple fruit flavours and overall a very complete wine.  Given Safra's versatility, it's a perfect wine for the tropical Singapore climate.

Fun fact - The winery purposely chose the yellow wine label as they refer to Safrá as the red wine with a white wine spirit.

About Winery:  Aside from producing award-wining wines, we also love Celler del Roure’s passion and desire to embrace the past.  Their motto “The past is our future” sums it up best. Safrá, which means Saffron in English, is part of Celler del Roure’s “Ancient” range.  Their “Ancient” wines are actually quite modern in concept as they seek out native grapes varietals which overtime became less popular and revert to leveraging wine aging techniques from centuries ago. Instead of aging wines in oak barrels, the “Ancient” range are aged in terracotta amphorae which date back to the 17thcentury and remained “dormant” on the vineyard for hundreds of years.

Celler del Roure was established in 1996 as a small family winery, and their mission was and still is to produce quality wines with a unique personality. Celler del Roure, located in the village, Moixant (Terres dels Alforis, DO Valencia, Spain), is located 600 meters above sea level.  The terroir consists of calcareous clay and sandy soil. The vine age ranges from 15 to 70 years old.
