Interesting fact! The “Vino de Pago” (or for short “Pago”) is a Spanish classification system that came into effect in 2003. In order for a vineyard to be approved as a Pago, it must abide by several strict requirements and then be approved through a rigorous certification process. The Pago status is reserved for high quality & elite vineyards, and there are only a small number of Pagos which currently exist in Spain. So the next time you see a Spanish wine called a “Pago”, you can be fairly confident that the vineyard is producing some quality wines!
About Winery: Bodegas Vegalfaro is a family owned boutique winery that practices organic farming. Andrés Valiente, along with the help of his son Rodolfo, established Vegalfaro Winery in 1999. In a relatively short period of time, Vegalfaro has been recognised as one of the most impressive wineries in the region. Perhaps winemaking is in their DNA as many of their ancestors were winemakers too!
Upon visiting Vegalfaro, what impressed us most is Rodolfo’s passion and talent in producing such unique and high quality wines. He has a true knack in understanding how the various grapes varietals blend together, and he is without doubt an artistic genius in the wine industry. It's no surprise in 2017 Rodolofo was even named “Winemaker of the Year”by the Valencian Association of Winemakers.
Since its inception, Vegalfaro's wines have received numerous awards and accolades. Vegalfaro proudly received the qualification “Pago”, which is an amazing accomplishment as it is considered the highest ranking of a vineyard in Spain. ”Pago” is a terroir reference comparable to those in other European countries such as: Chateau, Cru, Domaine and Clos in France, Castello in Italy and Quinta in Portugal. Vegalfaro is truly a fabulous winery and we are very excited to be representing their wines in Singapore!
