Campillo 57 Gran Reserva 2012Bodegas Campillo
Winery: Bodegas Campillo
Denomination of Origin: Rioja
Awards: 94 pts. James Suckling
Ageing: Aged minimum 24 months in French oak barrels
Format: Cork top, 750ML, Red Wine
Wine: Campillo 57 Gran Reserva commemorates the 4th generation of family at the winery. Sensual, full-bodied and extremely complex, with aromas of sweet cherries, chocolate, pepper, and vanilla.
Produced from Tempranillo grapes grown in Rioja Alavesa. The region is known for its acidic grapes, which lends perfectly for aging so it’s no surprise that this wine ages so well.
Interesting fact! Frank Gehry, the famous architect of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, was introduced to the Campillo winery during his stay in Bilbao. He was so enamoured with the winery that supposedly the contracts for the construction of the Guggenheim were even signed at Campillo!
About Winery: Campillo is a unique, spectacular winery that sits in Rioja Alevesa, in the region of Laguardia. The winery is the result of Julio Faustino Martinez’s ambition and vision. During the 1990s, Julio headed up the Faustino Group, which is one of the most reputable family owned wine producers in Spain and has been in existence for over 150 years. Julio was a visionary and one of the first pioneers of wine tourism in Spain. Two of his passions were: wine & architecture. And as such, he dreamed about creating a winery that was rich in both its wine and design. Campillo struck that balance, as not only does it produce award-winning wines, but also it architecturally has been recognised as one of the most impressive structures in Rioja.
For us Campillo is a true classic Rioja. So if you are looking for a good quality, traditional Rioja then Campillo is a superb choice.
