Wine: We were first introduced to Cruor by a good friend from Catalunya who raved about these wines & declared they were some of the best wines from the Priorat region. Cruor is an exquisite Mediterranean blend of Cariñena, Garnacha and Syrah. It's powerful yet balanced and smooth. It has a sweet entry which quickly transforms into an explosion of black fruits, vanilla, and a hint of chocolate. Great depth and finish. You can taste the wine was oaked for 15 months and it's best to decant before serving. A gorgeous classic wine to be paired with steak, lamb, hard/mature cheese and even rice or Italian food. Truly a winner.
About Winery: Casa Gran del Siurana is the result of a project which began in 2000 where Pelelada winery had their eye on the well respected wine region of Priorat. They sought the best plots of land located near the river Siurana as they believed this area had some of the most wine making potential. They purchased two estates - La Fredat and Casa Gran. It was at Casa Gran where there was a pre-existing farmhouse which was over 300 years old and was previously home to the Monks Scala Dei. These monks are believed to be responsible for originally introducing wine making to the region back in the 12th century. The project was obviously a success as the wines from Casa Gran del Siurana are some of the most coveted wines from Priorat.
