Wine: When we first tasted Protos 27, one word came to mind – WOW. Protos 27 was released to commemorate Protos’ 90th anniversary as well as honour their first vintage, which was awarded a medal in the 1929 Barcelona International Wine Exhibition. And what a commemorative wine it is. Even the label used to adorn the “Protos 27” bottle was recovered from their first vintage. Protos went to great lengths to create a unique, luxurious, fine wine. It took 10 years of research and the undertaking of a massive fermentation project using their own range of indigenous yeasts. End result is intense, complex and elegant on the nose with a broad range of aromas (black fruits, toasted vanilla, toffee and licorice). In the mouth balanced, persistent, and smooth.
About Winery: Protos, which means “first” in Greek, was founded in 1927. Several years later in 1982, it allowed its brand to be used to establish the Ribera del Duero DO. “Protos literally and figuratively put Ribera del Duero on the map.” Today Protos is the oldest winery in the Ribera del Duero and is an iconic brand known by generations of Spanish wine drinkers.
